Watch Bangkok come alive beside the river, glide through its canals by long-tail boat and explore Ayutthaya’s temple courtyards by tuk-tuk. Then fly north for Chiang Mai’s Lanna flavours and the mountain landscapes of Mae Hong Son. This 9-day Thailand journey brings city culture, rural markets and the cool forest atmosphere of Doi Inthanon into one varied holiday.
Your route starts in Bangkok and finishes in Chiang Mai, with a domestic flight between the two and a scenic road journey to Mae Hong Son. Stay four nights in Bangkok, two in Chiang Mai and two in Mae Hong Son. The northern section suits travellers who enjoy mountain scenery and are comfortable with winding roads and two substantial driving days.
This is a sample itinerary, designed around you. Choose your hotel category, travel dates and preferred pace. Vietpower Travel can add a restful mountain night, adjust walking or connect this journey with Vietnam and other destinations in our Indochina tour collection.
Send your Bangkok arrival and Chiang Mai departure details, dates, group size and hotel preferences. We will connect the airport transfers, domestic flight and touring days into a clear programme. In the north, slow down for Lanna food, a bamboo bridge across the fields and forest paths on Thailand’s highest mountain. There is time to enjoy each place, with your driver handling the mountain roads.

The sample includes the summit area and a short walk on the Ang Ka forest boardwalk, rather than a full trekking day. It is also the return transfer day to Chiang Mai, so we keep the park visit focused. Longer walks can be planned with extra time.
Eight breakfasts, one lunch on Day 4 and two dinners on Days 2 and 5 are listed. Other lunches, dinners, drinks and optional market snacks are at your own expense.

Welcome to Thailand. Your local guide and driver meet you at Suvarnabhumi Airport and take you to your Bangkok hotel, with services arranged by Vietpower Travel.
Settle in, relax after your journey and enjoy a gentle first evening. If you arrive early, we can arrange early check-in or an extra night in your quotation. Today is kept free rather than starting with a full sightseeing schedule.
Overnight: Bangkok
After breakfast, explore Wat Pho, known for its great reclining Buddha, then visit the Grand Palace complex and the temple of the Emerald Buddha. Your guide brings the royal history and temple details to life; leave time to enjoy the courtyards rather than hurry through them.
After lunch at your own expense, board a private long-tail boat for Thonburi’s canals. See waterside homes, visit the Baan Silapin artists’ area and enjoy a photo stop around Wat Paknam as the day’s route allows.
In the evening, return to Bangkok’s historic quarters for an included Thai dinner by the river. Continue to Pak Khlong Talat flower market and the Memorial Bridge area for a different view of the city after dark. The final order follows opening times and local conditions.
Overnight: Bangkok
Travel from Bangkok into the Samut Songkhram countryside. Take the short regional train experience and visit Maeklong railway market, where the stalls sit close to the tracks. Your guide plans the visit around the current train timetable.
Continue to Damnoen Saduak floating market for canal-side colour, boats and local snacks. A paddleboat ride is optional and paid separately in this sample. Visit a local palm-sugar producer to see another side of the countryside.
After lunch at your own expense, visit the King Rama II Memorial Park area, an orchard and Benjarong ceramic artisans according to the local programme. Return to Bangkok for the evening.
Overnight: Bangkok
Leave Bangkok after breakfast for Ayutthaya. A local Kermit-style tuk-tuk adds character to the visit between historic temple sites, including Wat Lokayasutharam and Wat Mahathat.
Enjoy the included lunch and time to browse local market flavours. Continue to Aranyik to learn about the village’s traditional metalwork and sword-making craft, with workshop access arranged for your visit.
Return to your Bangkok hotel. This final Bangkok night keeps tomorrow’s airport transfer straightforward.
Overnight: Bangkok
Your driver takes you to the airport for the included Bangkok–Chiang Mai domestic flight. The flight itself typically takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes. Flight number and departure time are confirmed for your travel date rather than fixed to an old timetable.
Meet the local team on arrival and transfer to your Chiang Mai hotel. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep for its golden temple and views over the city, then enjoy the wooded grounds and tunnels of Wat Umong. The day’s order follows the flight, hotel check-in and temple opening hours.
This evening, enjoy an included Khantoke dinner with Lanna-style dishes and a cultural performance. It is a memorable introduction to northern Thailand’s food and traditions.
Overnight: Chiang Mai
After breakfast, set out by private vehicle for Mae Hong Son. The mountain journey is part of the experience, with changing valleys, forested slopes and places to pause along the way.
Use the northern road through the Pai corridor for the outward journey, with comfort stops planned by your driver. Reserve the day for travelling rather than treating it as a short city transfer: the winding roads and breaks make journey time variable.
Arrive in Mae Hong Son, check in and relax. Enjoy a quiet evening and the slower rhythm of this mountain town.
Overnight: Mae Hong Son
Begin early at Su Tong Pae bamboo bridge, a peaceful place to enjoy the fields and mountain surroundings. If the local alms-giving takes place during your visit, observe respectfully with your guide’s advice.
Continue through Ban Gung Mai Sak and Wat Phu Sama, then return to refresh at your hotel before the next part of the day.
Visit Pha Suea waterfall and Pang Tong, the royal development project associated with highland agriculture and livestock. Enjoy the gardens and the local landscape, with access planned around the site’s current operation. Return to Mae Hong Son for your second night.
Overnight: Mae Hong Son
Depart early after breakfast for the journey back towards Chiang Mai. The return takes the southern mountain corridor through Khun Yuam and Mae Chaem towards Doi Inthanon, creating a different road experience from the outward journey.
Visit the Doi Inthanon summit area and enjoy a short walk on the Ang Ka forest boardwalk. Moss, tall trees and cool mountain air make this a forest experience; open panoramic views are not a feature promised at the summit.
This is a full travel day with a focused park visit. Keep the sightseeing concise and leave time for comfort stops and the onward drive to Chiang Mai. For a gentler pace or longer mountain walks, Vietpower Travel can add a night to your personalised programme.
Reach your Chiang Mai hotel and relax. No additional evening excursion is scheduled after the drive.
Overnight: Chiang Mai
Enjoy breakfast and any free time that fits your departure schedule. Your driver takes you to Chiang Mai Airport for the onward flight.
The transfer is arranged around your confirmed flight and the hotel’s check-out time. International flights and any early check-in or late check-out supplement are not included in the sample price.
